The Arunachal Pradesh government has made the decision to increase operational readiness in the state and maintain strict vigil by enhancing surveillance activities such as early detection, isolation, testing, and timely management of suspected and confirmed cases in response to the sudden surge of Covid-19 cases in several countries.

In a notification, Chief Secretary Dharmendra ordered all districts to prioritise the detection and containment of new SARs-CoV-2 variant outbreaks as well as micro containment measures, as and when necessary. The district health authorities have been ordered to assess their level of readiness with regard to incident command centres, Covid health facilities, oxygen beds, ICUs with paediatric care units, oxygen concentrators, ventilators, testing kits, rapid response teams, access to ambulances, and stock of essential medications. The order further instructed the districts to make daily arrangements for the daily delivery of samples from all positive cases to the designated INSACOG genome sequencing laboratories that are located in the corresponding states and union territories.

According to the chief secretary’s order, the decision was made following a thorough discussion by the State Health Task Force (SHTF) on the current global and national Covid-19 situation in response to meetings called by the Centre at the highest levels to assess the recent global surge in Covid cases. With immediate effect, the SHTF has suggested a number of public health actions to contain and combat any potential spike in Covid-19 instances in the state.
