A total of seven Bills abrogating old legislations have been passed by the Assam Assembly on Thurday, the 22nd of December, 2022. All of the Bills, introduced in the House the previous day, were passed via voice vote without any discussion.

The Seven Bills, which sought to do away with obsolete legislations are:
• The Assam Evacuee Property (Repealing) Bill, 2022
• The Assam Jute (Control of Prices) (Repealing) Bill, 2022
• The Assam Darrang and Lakhimpur Districts (Assimilation of Laws on State Subjects) (Repealing) Bill, 2022
• The Assam Local Authorities Grants (Charged) (Repealing) Bill, 2022
• The Public Gambling (Extension to Mizo District) (Repealing) Bill, 2022
• The Assam Farmers (Group Irrigation) (Repealing) Bill, 2022
• The Tinsukia and Dibrugarh Electricity Supply Undertakings (Acquisition) (Repealing) Bill, 2022.

Moreover, three new amendment Bills have been introduced in the House on Thursday. The Assam Money Lenders’ (Amendment) Bill, 2022 introduced by the State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, seeks to ‘reduce regulatory compliance burden on citizens and businesses.’

The two other Amendment Bills, also in line with reducing compliance burden on the Government of India, are : The Assam State Transport Corporation (Prevention of Unauthorised Travel) (Amendment) Bill, 2022 and The Asssam Forest (Removal and Storage of Forest Produce) Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2022. In addition to these, five other Repealing Bills have been tabled on Thursday and are awaiting approval of the House.
