The 15th President of India, Droupadi Murmu who is on a 2-day Assam visit, laid the foundation stone virtually for the zonal institute of the National Institute of Virology (NIV) at Dibrugarh, Assam which will be the fourth institute of NIV in India after Pune, Bangalore & Jabalpur (foundation stone laid along with Dibrugarh). To elaborate, NIV is one of the major institutes of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and is an Indian Virology Research Institute. The NIV has been designated as a WHO H5 reference laboratory for SE Asia Region. Beside laying the foundation of NIV, Dibrugarh, President Murmu also laid the foundation for NIV in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh too. Now there will be four regional institutes in India.

Additionally, she also inaugurated virtually the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital which will provide affordable medical facility to all the people over there and also inaugurated the Superpower facility ‘Param Kamrupa’, an R&D facility – a high power active and passive component laboratory of SAMEER at IIT, Guwahati.

Moreover, Honourable Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi, CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Shri Bharati Praveen Pawar, fellow Minister Shri Keshav Mahanta, Director IIT Guwahati Professor T.G. Sitaram and other honourable persons were present on the occasion.These steps taken towards the upliftment and development will escort a new era in the development of the state.
