From 8th August, 2022 the Dibrugarh District Administration keeping one of the busiest road, i. e. Bordoloi Avenue (AMCH road) in mind, took a very effective measure. As the road leads to Assam Medical College and is always overloaded with traffic, the administration has implemented One-way restriction on the road from 8am to 9 pm everyday.

According to this new change, the stretch between Paltan Bazar and AMCH will be one way with only cars going towards AMCH can enter. The vehicles going to Graham Bazar from AMCH side will have to take AMCH Link road and then take the AT road to go to their desired locations. Meanwhile people coming from Tinsukia side to AMCH can take the Seujpur road to proceed towards Paltan Bazar and then go to AMCH. However, ambulances are excempted from the one-way rule.

Several police checks are being made so that strict actions are taken against anyone found violating.

As the law is enforced, we talked with few locals and few people coming to AMCH today.
“It would have been better if this decision was taken by taking our suggestions as well. The decision was made abruptly, and we had to suffer due to new route change. There will be arguments with passengers as there is no rate chart made for the new route.”
a three wheeler ape driver expressed his dissatisfaction before us.

Meanwhile a person from Dhemaji thanked the Dibrugarh administration for taking this step. He mentioned,
” Earlier we found it so difficult to reach AMCH, it took almost 30-40 mins to pass the entire AMCH stretch from Graham Bazar. Today i was shocked to see the road so clear. It hardly took me 5 minutes to reach AMCH gate. As we have to go back to Dhemaji, the ease of traffic helped us a lot.”

There were even some locals irked with this idea and slammed the administration. One of them stated,
“I stay inside AMCH campus. If I have to go to Foolbagan, I will have to take the long route of Link road-Naliapool-Graham Bazar & then Foolbagan. Earlier it was 2.5 kms now it will be double. Who will compensate my extra fuel cost? These are silly decisions. The main root cause of the jam is illegal parking of vehicles of the people coming to private hospitals. Hospitals are opening like mushrooms in this road with minimum to no parking space. Even if there is parking it is for their staffs and doctors. Some hospitals are even using their parking space as OPD. Why administration is not taking any action and harrasing the common people?”

Added to this, we also talked with a Police Personnel. He said that there will be inconvenience for a few days as people are not well acquainted with this implementation. But, as soon as people get used to this, there will be no more hassle or discomfort that will irk them. This has been solely done to ease traffic so that emergency patients can easily access the biggest healthcare facility of the region.

We only hope this change is for a better cause and should not see the fate like College Road and HS Road after somedays, where people irrespective of the one-way enters the road from wrong way and create unnecessary chaos.
