Switzerland has legalized a suicide machine which promises painless death under one minute.Named ‘Sarco’, the machine is shaped like a coffin and causes painless death through hypoxia and hypocapnia, oxygen and carbon-dioxide deprivation respectively. Dr Philip Nitschke, the director of the non-profit organization Exit International, also popularly known as ‘Dr. Death’ ,is man behind the suicide pod.According to its creators the machine can be operated from inside even by blinking, in case the person suffers from locked-in syndrome .

The machine can be taken to the preferred location of the user and then the biodegradable capsule is detached from the base in order to serve as a coffin.Assisted suicide is legal in Switzerland and around 1,300 people used the services of euthanasia organisations last year.As per reports, only two Sarco prototypes exist at present but Exit International is 3D printing a third machine soon. It is expected to be ready for operation in Switzerland next year.
